Research Report Available February 9th We have just completed one of the most comprehensive market research studies ever conducted into the Australian Horse Racing Wagering scene. In the 'Australian Horse Racing and Betting Study' we surveyed punters who between them operated over 1,000 on line betting accounts with corporate bookmakers, the TABs and Betfair. Many thanks to all the punters from around the country who took part in the survey.
The study covered three key areas - 1.Corporate Bookmaker, TAB and Betfair Usage - A comprehensive exploration of the wagering scene, including consumer opinions of each company and their products, ratings of their web sites, account holder profiles and feedback on what products and services punters want from their betting providers.
2. Horse Racing Industry Issues - Consumer opinions on current issues including the advertising of odds during sporting events, the control of Australian horse racing, the banning of jumps racing and suggestions on how the horse racing industry could be improved.
3. Consumer Betting Habits and Behaviours - An in depth look at how punters' bet, how much they bet, what motivates them to bet, their use of mobile phones to bet and the issue of problem gambling.
The detailed 50 page report with the findings from the study will be released on February 9th. For information on how you can obtain your copy of the report see 'Survey Report'.
Over the coming weeks we'll explore some of the fascinating findings from the study on the Aussieraces.com web site.

Is There Too Much Horse Racing? In an interview with the Herald Sun newspaper Racing Victoria Chief Executive Rob Hines has canvassed the idea of having a race free day each week. "It's something I've been quite keen on for a while" he said.
It appears many punters would agree. In our just completed 'Australian Horse Racing and Betting Survey' we asked bettors 'How could Australian horse racing be improved?'. The most commonly cited answer was 'to have less less racing'. Respondents reasoned that less racing would result in bigger fields and better quality fields as well as give both racing industry employees and punters a break.
In a survey carried out by the Sydney Telegraph newspaper in July readers were asked 'Is there too much racing?" - 53% of respondents answered 'yes'.
