We got onto a good winner in Over Quota at Sandown Lakeside last Saturday. Rated as the $7.00 favourite for his race by Aussieraces, Over Quota scored at the top value odds of $15.00.

Star Of Giselle - There have been a number of scratchings from this event which have actually enhanced the chances of our selection as she gets back and with the smaller field she can race a bit closer to the pace. Star Of Giselle is fit and ready to win after two runs this time in. She'll appreciate the step up in distance from 1000 to 1100 metres here - the only previous time she ran over the trip she scored by 6 lengths.

There's Only One - This Peter Moody trained mare got back in the run but then got home gamely to take fourth place in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes at Flemington last start. She drops significantly in class to an 89 Restricted grade race today but rises only half a kilo in the weights - so she looks well placed in this event. The step up in distance from 1400 to 1700 metres suits - she won at all of her three previous runs beyond 1400 metres. We know this mare is pretty smart - before her last start she won five city races in a row - which is no mean feat. She also often displays good acceleration and records fast final sectionals in her races - more signs that she is an above average galloper.

Kulgrinda - With many of the leading fancies resuming from spells in this race there are not a lot of recent pointers to help us pick the winner. Kulgrinda is one of those resuming from a break and she 'flies' when fresh. She won easily at her previous two first up runs - by margins of 3.25 and 2.75 lengths. Trainer Peter Moody agrees with our analysis - yesterday he said "She's very good fresh - she's a very good mare and is ready to run super first up". The outside gate is not ideal - but with a long run to the first and only turn - she shouldn't have to cover too much ground in the run.

Royal Mail - This highly consistent galloper settled back, but when his rider saw that no one wanted to lead he zoomed around the field to take up the running at the 1400 metre mark at Felmington at his last start. He was joined and overtaken with 300 metres to go but then found another wind to kick away and score by 1.75 lengths. Royal Mail adapted to the muddling tempo well on that occasion and with little pace in today's race we could see a similar scenario. Royal Mail loves racing on firm track surfaces - he's won 4 of his past 6 starts - all the 4 wins were on firm turf and the 2 times he got beaten were on rain effected ground. He'll certainly have conditions to suit at Caulfield today.
